Hardy annuals in nurseries: when?

New York, NY(Zone 7a)

I know the weather is making me restless when I'm already looking for pansies and primroses at my local nurseries and it's only the beginning of February. Can anyone tell me how many more weeks of "winter" I have to get through before I can plant something flowery?

Dawn,
I'm with you I just checked one of my favorite nursery's web site www.avantgardensne.com for mention of a shipping date for annuals and it has yet to be posted. The good news is we are more than half way through winter. Katy

well..you could buy some primrose for the house....then just transplant them in the spring.

I have two primroses in a vinyl mini-greenhouse in the backyard -- we'll see whether the cold is too much for them, now that the greenhouse is probably laden with snow.
