Corn Companions.

Lawrenceville, GA(Zone 7b)

Can anyone recommend a good companion crop for corn that will be grown in a raised bed.

How many rows of corn can I plant in a 4x8 by 1 foot raised bed?

Thanks

Well, there's the tried and true Three Sisters: pole beans growing up the corn, and squash/pumpkin underneath (loads of threads on this). Others are beets, cabbage family, cantaloupe, cukes, parsley, peas.

If the corn is 8 inches apart, maybe 4 rows would be safe. Depending on how much nutrition is there in the soil, as corn's such a heavy feeder.

Thanks Zeppy

Whe the search engine is back up, I'll look for the threads

Oh, oops. Forgot it was down. Well, a google search w/ "Three Sisters", corn and beans should do it.

Sunflowers would be our best bet if possible. though you need 18-24 inches between them and the corn...
