Should I feed my Azaleas and Rhodies? and when?

Seattle, WA(Zone 8a)

After many (26) days of rain (it is Seattle...), the sun came out yesterday, so I went outside to have a look. One of my azaleas is covered in pink buds, but others aren't ready yet. My R. molle doesn't even have leaves yet. I've heard one is supposed to feed the plants when they start to bloom, so do I fertilize now, or wait until they really bloom?

If your plants are hale and hearty, why feed them at all? I don't feed mine once they are established. I just keep them well mulched with lots of good organic material that will break down over time providing a steady supply of nutrients.

what about using ironite?

I've used chemicals to give young plants a jump start; but in the long long run, using organic methods seems to yield the best (and least expensive) result for me.

I've read that you should feed them after they are finished blooming.
