Knitting Questions From a Beginner

Last week, I started learning to knit using a CD-Rom, and a beginner's book. After I felt comfortable with both the knit and purl stitches, I made this swatch of stockenette fabric. Are the edges rolling under because they're supposed to, or did I knit it too tight?
