Ric,
the link doesn't work for me.
Frausnow
Link doesn't work for me either. Does the garden still exist?
Sorry, It looks like the link is down.
Here's a link to the USA Today article.

I'll see if there is another site w/ their wish list.

edited to say...
This link didn't take either. Just go to the site and search for "Botanical garden New Orleans". I think the first link in the results is the one you intended?

I was able to access the wishlist through this link:
http://www.neworleanscitypark.com/plantlist.php
They are asking for plants from this list, as well as others that might do well in their zone.
If you are interested, email them at nobgmail@yahoo.com with a list of possible donations.
I have several of the plants, but I live in zone 6a where I would not be able to ship the plants until end March. I wonder if this is useful or if they will want the plants earlier?
I am going to send an email asking them and I'll let you know!
Thanks for bringing this to my attention.

Ric-
I sent an email telling them about this site and my willingness to organize some solicitations for plant donations. We'll see if they take me up on it or contact other DG members.
ROX
ROX,
That's a Great idea.
Keep us posted.
Ric
I am going to email our local Botanical Garden's Director and see if they are aware and can help. It looks like they need a lot more than a small gardener could provide.
Ah but thousands of small gardeners.............lol
Let us know what he says hs.
Ric
He is out for the holidays right now, so I will get back later. I was just thinking that our City Park Dept., and other City facilities here helped with evacuees so much that they may already been aware of the plight there. If so, I would like to know how they helped. They are always growing new plants and have sales twice a year, and if they haven't helped maybe they can. If others can help all the better.
I haven't heard back yet from the NO botanical gardens yet.
I like the idea of contacting local botanical gardens and city parks.
Personally, I don't have a lot right now but I could probably donate 20 of my colocasia esculenta 'fontanesii' babies, which within a year could grow into a formidable forest I think.
