Willamette Valley, OR(Zone 8a)

flowerfrenzy, you're a very BAD influence on me!! LOL I started writing down the ones from your list that I like the most and then I had to remind myself that I have absolutely NO MORE room to plant anything!

Wow Denise, you mean you haven't floated away yet? LOL I thought we were going to yesterday. Good thing we got a little break from the rain yesterday though. We had a small lake forming on the sidewalk in front of our house. I saw a beautiful double rainbow the other day though.....that's one nice thing about moisture in the air.....but then of course you need a little sunbreak to see them. ;-)

Vancouver, WA(Zone 7a)

mgh~

Come on now, you know there's always room for one more! LOL!

Well for me it means another field...I was good this year, I did not order from Barry Blyth and that is the first time in 5 years..but turned around and ordered from Superstition. Will order from Keppel, Mid America and Ghio this year.

But the field is for more than one reason, one need to do crop rotation and then going to have an area for the new acquisitions, my own seedlings which this year is judgement time...

Now Mendy the driveway was completely under water all the way to the house! But did not get to the iris, sibs, ji or daylilies, this coming week will cover the potted plants for the balance of winter, just wish I was feeling human.

Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays to each and every one of you on Dave's Garden

Everyone in a warm climate should grow Lenora Perle. This IM blooms three times a year for me. And has a light fragrance too.

laurie, i have spent the last 2 hours looking in the plantfiles looking at everyones pictures. i have a long list. can you tell me your favorite MTB's? i looked at your home page, shadowood this afternoon. i bet your gardens are beautiful! belinda

Deer River, MN(Zone 3b)

Only two hours???? Get to work! LOL!

I'm fairly new to MTBs myself, but they do so well here that they are quickly becoming one of my favorite bearded classes. Here are some that I particularly enjoy:

Tyke
Merit
Concord Sprite
Aachen Elf
Carolyn Rose
Honorabile
Steffie
Crystal Ruffles
Smash
Welch's Reward
Fakir's Fire
Bangles

Coshocton, OH(Zone 6a)

i'm still looking at the plantfiles. i have 3 window opens. one for plantfiles, one for my garden journal and one for google. that's doesn't count the hours, i spent at shadowood. the irises that are marked no longer grows here, could i ask the reasons why? belinda

p.s. how's pb doing?

Vancouver, WA(Zone 7a)

I have to say that SDB's are my very favorite bearded irises. I love the TB's because they are very impressive when they're blooming. However, the medians are faster increasers, have less disease and/or rotting problems and come in a much wider range of color combinations. As long as they get a good winter chill, they're just awesome!

Deer River, MN(Zone 3b)

Belinda,

Most of the irises that fail here are modern TBs (and BBs) that just aren't tough enough to handle my severe climate and growing conditions. Frigid winters that often lack adequate insulating snowfall, summers that boil, borers that devour, clay that suffocates, native companion plants that crowd and choke, deer that graze and trample, a woefully (and shamelessly) lazy gardener - it's not an easy life for irises here. Even so, the dwarfs, medians, and many of the beardless irises do very well for me.

Wrong forum for PB talk, but he's doing wonderfully. We might even make graduation to fully integrated family member by 1/1/06!!!

Laurie

Deer River, MN(Zone 3b)

Hey, Belinda, I just realized you're in OH. If you're interested in dwarfs and medians, you have the premier hybridizers of such irises right there in-state! You REALLY ought to be getting in touch with the Willotts!

Laurie

Coshocton, OH(Zone 6a)

laurie, wow! your zone must be terrible. i live on a farm, we have alot of deer. they don't bother my flowers. we're surrounded with corn fields and they like the corn better. i tried to google the willotts and i couldn't find them. do you know the name of their garden?

belinda

p.s. i know but i was just wandering about pb plus i love to read your stories!

Deer River, MN(Zone 3b)

The deer primarily only bother my irises in early spring before their natural browse leafs out and again in the fall after the browse defoliates but before the iris beds are covered with snow.

thanks, laurie. they are about 2hrs. from me. the deer like the daylilies around here.

Cedar Rapids, IA(Zone 5a)

Laurie is a truly dedicated Iris Lover! I don't have to put up with half those problems--just late frosts and keeping them dry in my mixed beds. Oh, and Walker the Wonderdog running thru chasing the rabbits that are eating my lilies & phlox.
