is this a good idea

for planting my vegetables plants in. i bought this in our local dollar store. its a clothes hamper
but when i saw it in the store i thought about gardening.

its about 21 inches high and about 12 inches wide. the mesh is small enough so the soil will not get out. i can also put a clear plastic bag tightly around it to keep it from drying out to quickly.

what about it? is this something that can actually work or should i forget it. your comments please. thanks

I'd give it a shot...it looks like something that I'd try for sure. Maybe some Yukon Gold potatoes...or tomatoes.

Yep, I'd go for it!

edited to say that if you do potatoes, cover it in black plastic...developing potatoes need darkness, or they will get that green color and produce an enzyme that is poisonous...(not deadly, but they aren't good for you anymore)

thanks - was thinking that since its so deep i could fill the bottom with some "basic soil" which is just a kind of fill in dirt.

Yep, I'd do that too.
