Need help quick, please. Hand-sewing

My husband hurt his hand and needs a heat pack to take to work with him. Here at home we put some dry rice in a sock and tie a knot in the sock and put it in the microwave. He wanted something that looked a little nicer to take to work, so I machine sewed a square out of an old tshirt and put the rice in it. Problem is, I don't know how to hand-sew it together so it looks fairly nice and finished. It doesn't have to be great, but I'd like something better than a visible whipstitch. Can someone please help me with this? Here's picture of it. Please ignore the stripes that don't line up. I did this in about 10 minutes, and it's still better than a sock! LOL
Thanks a million!
