Tour of Heritage Breed Livestock Farm/Estate

Culpeper, VA(Zone 7a)

This weekend I toured a local farm/estate that raises endangered "heritage" breeds of livestock. Not only is the owner helping to preserve the gene pool of these breeds, but she also uses the meat (as well as all the organice produce she also raises) in her restaurant & sells it in her organic market.

It's an annual event featuring raffles, artwork, her antique carriage display (she also raises Shire horses), etc., & all proceeds go to benefit Virginia humane societies. In fact, the admission price was a donation of any type of dog/cat food to be distributed to local animal shelters (we brought 40# bags of both dog & cat food : ) ).
