Solar Fountains

I am interested in purchasing a Beckett fountain. It does not come with a solar pump. I know that on Silicon Solar's site you can purchase a pump with a solar panel and battery backup. So my question is, can these easily be switched out or do I really need to buy a fountain that is already solar? Also, anyone have any particular problems with Beckett fountains?
