How Many Clematis Together?

Decatur, GA(Zone 7a)

With sales at the nursery, and trading, I now have about 10 clematis. How many should I plant together on an arbor and on a different huge hydrangea? I've seen 2 on an arbor, but would it hurt them to plant more?

By trial and error I can tell you that I wouldn't plant more than four on a arbor. I have one on each or the outside corners. They did very well and covered the whole arbor and bloomed great. Had about 6 on it the year before and all i got was vine and very little blooms.

Here's a pic of one of my clematis that I moved to a small Iron trellis.

How beautiful, gldandrews! I never thought about putting one on a small iron trellis, but I do have a couple. And, I can see your point about no more than 4. I will heed that advice.

Thanks!

Pins...it's very important to plant the same pruning types together so you don't have a nightmare..I prefer Planting pruning group 3s together as you can find the first leaf axil on each one and prune an inch above..so easy...also, remember the "Mature" size of most clematis can get anywhere from 4+feet wide to 10-15+Feet tall..hope this helps...Jeanne

Jeanne, where can I find out which group is which? I know I've seen it before, but I don't know where.
