I like the broken color the best but 3304 is a great looking one also. Actually I like them all :-)
d - 0702b i like the white with the blue veining. 0702b really like the broken coloring. 3403 was a WOW and my favorite! the other three i like but i would probably wouldn't buy. belinda
Hi Dee!
I just love 3203 and the one in the 2nd picture.
Terri (in England)
Mitt- I am so far the proudest of that one, not so much the color but the form, branching and bud count...and thank you.
Thank you daylily...it always amazes me to see the siblings from just one cross as the first three are from the same cross.
Thank you Terri. I too love 3203 if it continues I will be introducing, and did several crosses with it this year...see what I get there. I wish the picture of the Broken Color had been better, what is so different is that it is reversed with dark on top and a BC as well.
Well it is not raining so bad out to the iris fields for more clean up.
Hope all of you are continuing to work as weather permits.

3203 is a doll in the color field
thank you Tazzy! I enjoy it and hope to do something with it in the future.

I love 0702 rebloomer
I wonder about that broken color. A number of non-BC SDBs will show similar markings in my garden. I attribute the phenomenon to late freezes during bud development and/or mosaic virus. It's an interesting effect, whatever the cause, but it's not a stable characteristic in non-BC cultivars. How many years have you bloomed that seedling, Denise, and do all flowers exhibit the color breaks?
three years Laurie and so far it has been true. Been planted in two different locations. Never on any of its sibs either.
Looking for better form, so really going to watch it this year closely
702 has rebloomer two times for me.
Three years with all BC blooms seems pretty consistent.
I'm still embarrassed by the pic of Willott's 'Alpine Lake' I posted to iris-photos a few years ago. AL blooms with major color breaks in my garden every year. I love the way it looks and thought that was how it was supposed to look until I posted that pic and Dorothy posted a response about how absolutely AWFUL it looked! ACK! Since then I've observed my AL clumps closely and noticed that on occasion, the very last few blooms in a clump may flower normally with no color breaks. That indicates to me that the color breaks are occurring in response to freezing weather during development of the earlier buds. At least that's what makes the most sense to me.
I will sometimes see some color mottling similar to your seedling on 'What Again', though nowhere near as consistently as on AL. Come to think of it, my two heaviest and most consistent non-BC BCs are both MDBs: 'Alpine Lake' and 'Hey There'.
The temperature can do a number on the form, mottling etc...I am always have to check all broken colors as some really hold well while others do not. If I get a BC in one that is new to me, I go hit the books to see if it is listed as a BC...

I'm partial to 3403. Love the edge on the falls matching the stands - it almost looks like two rows of color around the deep purple center on the falls, the white beard working with the white marks on the falls, veining in the stands. Complex and lovely.
3403 and 3302 are from the same cross, will study extra hard this year to see if any worthy of introducing. The daylilies in some ways are even harder.
Thank you!
0702B is my fav... the others are pretty, but there's something about this one!
thank you daylily, since this is just the second year on my blooms I am working on deciding which ones are keepers and why.

I love 3203 and 3403, so very crisp and clear....drama !!!
great job !
Margo
Thank you Margo
What I am looking for is something very striking with excellent branching, outstanding bud count.

Those are great looking seedlings Denise. My 2 favorites would be the broken color one and the cute little rebloomer. (even though SDB's don't do well here in the desert.)
Don't be too hasty getting rid of any seedlings. You probably already know this if you've been doing this awhile - - but sometimes it takes 2-3 years before they really show you their true colors/stuff. One of the most frequent regrets I hear is that someone got rid of a seedling, that a couple of years later - - they wish they didn't. (and of course there is no way to get it back once it's gone). Sometimes the maiden bloom "ugly ducklings" turn into beautiful swans by the 2nd or 3rd year. And sometimes the "bathing beauties" end up being not such a beauty after all.
It is so nice and refreshing to see seedlings. :-) Do you have any more?

Denise,
I am certainly not an Iris expert and admire anyone who is organized and talented enough to produce their own beautiful seedlings.
But, if I were shopping for some new Iris and had the choice between all of the ones above....the 2 that I would pick would be:
0702BC. I love this one as the markings are very unique and the veining is very prominent. It's a nice smaller size to plant between a solid lavender and solid yellow in the garden. Very eye catching. Love the "splashes"
3203. I love this one as the contrast of colors is very evident and clearly marked. I find it to be a very elegant and stately bloom. Sure to grab attention.
Those are my 2 favorites. Thank you so much for sharing pictures and congratulations on your pretty "kreations".
Kim
