I purchased the semi hot peppers seeds from four different online seed sites and 3 out of 4 are in the excatly the same. same code number on the little bag, same label everything. Why is that? are they buying all from the same source?
Just wondering.
Michelle
How come my seeds are all the same?
Michelle,
Many seeds are raised by a few large seed growers these days. These sources supply a large portion of retailers and garden catalog sales.
Fedco Seed had a way of identifying the source by a number....[1] was a local grower, [2] was another type grower, [3] another, [4]another, and [5] was an international grower.
Sounds like it. Some seeds are only available from certain wholesalers.
Thanks for the info. I never knew that. I guess I will have to through trail and error.
How would you know ?
Michelle
Also you will find many retail companies owned by a bigger company. They are trying to keep old time customers.
I live near Fairbult, MN., home of Farmers Seed & Nursery.
This company went out of business nearly 20 years ago. There is still a Farmers catalog.
Use companies that are still in business. Check the Watchdog for more info.
