I have a generation (not just a family) of field rats that have come to live in my garden. They are being ran from their homes in the fields by the housing developments beside me. I was outside emptying the swimming pool yesterday and as usual there were ant piles around the edges of the tarps and bricks. So I got some ant killer and sprinkled it on the piles. Then I set my live trap out for the mice. They aren't very smart but seem to be really hungry. I watched 2 try to beat each other into it to get the apple. I caught one and put the cage aside and then I saw the other one come running toward the ant pile and just start eating something. ?? It was just having a feast and was not even caring that I was getting close and watching. I don't know whether it was eating the ants or the poison. I know that sounds dumb, but I'm still trying to give it the benefit of not being THAT dumb.
Do mice eat...ants?!
