I dug up some suckers from these family shrubs. They have been around for years. I could not find any information in the Plant Files and was wondering if someone could find them for me. The lilac is a purple and the Mock Orange was a double.
Thanks, Linda
Lilac and Double Mock Orange
Linda, if the Lilac has "been around for years", it is probably Syringa vulgaris http://davesgarden.com/pf/go/1443/index.html. The link for Mock Orange (Philadelphus) is here http://davesgarden.com/pf/b/Hydrangeaceae/Philadelphus/none/cultivar/0. There are several cultivars with double flowers: 'Buckley's Quill', 'Manteau d'Hermine' and 'Virginal' come to mind immediately. Hope this helps.
Thanks for the links. I was looking for old fashioned lilac and did not know the Latin.
I have virginal (has not bloomed after 2 years). Do you think I will be able to determine the cultivar after it blooms? I was hoping to see if I could find the dates when they were introduced. My aunt who owns the Mock Orange is almost 90 and living in the same property for 50 but I need to ask when she bought it.
Thanks again.
linda
