Fallopia Japonica Variegata

Crossville, TN(Zone 6b)

Is it invasive like the Fallopia japonica? http://davesgarden.com/pf/go/32028/index.html From what everyone says I should toss it away when I receive it. I just traded for both of these shrubs.
Here is file for the variegata: http://davesgarden.com/pf/showimage/75928/
It does not say it is invasive. I was wondering if I should place it in a container.
thanks for any information.

Linda, we've grown Fallopia japonica 'Variegata' for years and never had a problem with it being invasive. We have it growing in both deep shade and in full sun. In the shade it retains the bright variegation but tends to get a little leggy, not as dense. If I had the time I'd probably whack it back in early summer to keep it shorter and more shrubby. In the full sun it loses some of its variegation but grows like a shrub and the flowering in the fall is spectacular.

This is a picture of the plant we have in full sun (on the right) taken in early June.

Thanks rcn. Your pix looks like it is over 6 feet. Is it? I will have to comtemplate where to place it if it does get that height. Linda

Linda, it's at least 6 feet, maybe a little more once in flower. Easy enough to prune them to keep them shorter if you desire and then you get more flowers in fall.

Mine only gets to be about 3' in dense shade. I cut the tiny flowers off so they don't seed around. I grow it for the foliage. It is a clumper but the seeds are so tiny they blow around with the wind and can pop up anywhere, that is why I remove the seeds.
