Ok, here it is half past September and I have just realized one of the things I am missing out here in California, Texas Hurricane Lillies. Darn, some things just can't be left behind! Anyone know where I can get some and if they will grow this far from home?
Thanks,
Fred
Hurricane Lillies
Hi, Fog ~
Is this what you're looking for? http://tytyga.com/oxbloodlilly/
Yep, that's it Moby but, gasp, the price. I left a fortune in Houston - there must have been two or three hundred in that yard! Now I am sick.
Fred
Buried treasure!
Here is another resource, (buggycrazy) and a very highly recommended one http://www.daylily.com/cgi-bin/auction.cgi?cultivarsother&1127886216
Have you considered posting on the Bulb Forum for a trade?
Well, I have nothing to trade. I am starting a new garden from scratch. Nothing yet even big enough to take cuttings and a tiny yard that I am going to have to, horrors, plan. I will probably buy one Hurricane Lily and put it in the middle of an annual designated area and depend on nature - by the time I'm 80 or 90 I should have a good patch.
Fred
Not to worry, Fred. You can always ask if anyone is willing to trade for postage. The worst that can happen is that you won't have any takers ~ so you won't be any worse off than before.
Gardeners are an awfully generous lot, you might get lucky!
(I have a small fortune in Lily Of The Valley. Down at my local garden center they're charging $5 for 1 or 2 pips. I can't give the stuff away fast enough!)
That's an idea, all I can do is ask, eh?
Fred
Yep!
This might be an even better option ~ the Texas Gardening forum http://davesgarden.com/forums/f/region_tx/
Just so you know, they're also called Schoolhouse lilies. I hadn't heard "Hurricane" before and had to look it up. Good luck!
OK I'll post there also, thanks Moby.
