Who is this armor plated bug?
NatureWalker - that is a burying beetle (family Silphidae). I'm pretty sure that yours is an American carrion beetle (genus Silpha). These beetles generally find dead critters and bury them and/or get underneath them. Unless there was a dead toad or something nearby, this beetle was likely just passing through.
