Hey-La... Hey-La... My hubby is back! (And building a deck)

Columbus, OH(Zone 5b)

As some of you know my husband has been overseas for the past 6 months. Well hubby is back and we both just walk around with big grins, holding hands and doing kissie face stuff in the middle of Home Depot, etc.
He winks at me and I swoon...

Ok... Ok... on with it, right?
We eventually toned down the kissie face stuff and started working on some garden projects.
What is the saying? You gotta break a few eggs to make a soufflé? Or was that to make eggroll?
He tore up the garden to lay drainage and a sprinkler system and now he's on to building a cedar deck.

I think he's so smart...

A] He didn't want to go though the process (not to mention the additional taxes) of getting a permit.
So he made the deck floating.
If it doesn't attach to the house you are not required to get a permit.
Although the deck butts up to the house and appears to be attached
B] The deck is set on piers, but he didn't want to pay $7.00 a piece for each cement block.
So he fashioned is own using 5 gallon plastic pots as a form.
Cost $1.70 a piece.

Here are some photos of the 1st part of the process.

We have the rockiest soil - digging isn't easy
