Does anybody know what kind of spider this is? This is the first year I have ever seen one in the garden this color!

We call them Banana Spiders! I hate these things!!!! Other common names; Black and Yellow Garden Spider,
Black and Yellow Argiope, Writing Spider, Golden Garden Spider.

That is definitely it! Thank you for your quick responses! I hate spiders! They just freak me out, and when I saw this one wrapping up it's lunch (a large cicada), I really freaked! I ran right to the shed for the bug killer! I'm sorry, just a wus here!

Don't kill them! These spiders are harmless to humans (at least they've never bothered me) and they eat lots of bugs. Here's a picture of my pet spider...

i count myself lucky when i get one or two of these in my garden. please don't spray them! they will eat what eats your plants. debi
