I got a message concerning one of my auctions for an SDB asking how they would do in zone 9. I know they do fairly ok in California 9 but how about Florida 9? Should I advise this potential customer not to risk it?
She states "I am in Jacksonville, FL. I am able to grow some dormant daylilies as long as they are not catagorized as "hard" dormant. We do get down to freezing a couple of times a year but it is usually no longer than 3-4 hours at the freezing level."
What would you tell her?
Thanks

Irises in Florida zone 9 - Jacksonville vicinity
I'd tell her the same thing I told a hot-climate gardener to whom I sold some MDBs - to consider it an experiment. If it works, great. If not, at least your buyer has learned which cv(s) not to bother trying again.
Experimentation is an essential practice in gardening. In my garden here in zone 3, everything that gets put in the ground is an experiment.

Thanks Laurie. That's basically the gist of what I told her that it was a chance she had to decide to take.
