I read a long time ago that the used pads keep fresh in the freezer. I keep mine in a baggie or in a once used margarine tub. I can use the same pad over and over without it rusting.
Also, if you pour boiling water over the pads it will make a cleaning "gel" when cooled. I really don't care for this one, though. It is kind of gooey, but might work for certain cleaning jobs.
