This is my first summer owning some JMs. Both of my red laceleaf trees had beautiful dark red leaves back in May but now have leaves that are much more dull, dark green than red or dark red. Is this normal or am I doing something wrong?

Red laceleaf leaves are turning green.
Many red leaved cultivars turn more greenish in late summer...often due to too much heat or shade. They will turn red again in the fall as the leaves put on their autumn colour. Do you know the cultivar you are growing? The popular upright A. palmatum 'Atropurpureum' often takes on a green cast in summer. I have a Cutleaf called 'Red Dragon' that holds the deep red colour very well all summer. So, you are probably not doing anything wrong at all.
