Plain old petunia

Brookhaven, PA(Zone 7a)

I saved seed form silver wave, purple wave, and some other petunia I had last year (so don't ask me what I have I donno) but I trimmed them back some today to get them under control and a new flush of blooms...... ummmmmm they smelled like CANDY! Or as DD said -- ICE CREAM Mama! Man did they smell sooooo good!!!

Ok -- I'm done - had to share

Petunias really do have a nice aroma especially on a warm afternoon.

It seems to me that petunias from collected seed are more inclined to smell good. I think they revert back closer to species. This is especially true of the blue ones.

I had a purple volunteer come up in a pot of begonias....it perfumes the whole front porch. Glad to say I left it there even though the begonias were orange and yellow. The fragrance is much more intense than it's parent.

Our season is so short that I don't get petunia volunteers, but I do collect seed. I can't count on them being just like the parent plant, but they are usually beautiful and fragrant.
