Did we miss wild color combos in our palette?

Stanford, CA(Zone 9b)

I may have missed it but I want to see the outrageous ones. This is Impressionist. What else should I grow?

Mexican Holiday - but I'll bet you can go wilder than this.

Impressionist is very striking, doss. This is going to be a good thread. Although I have nothing to contribute this year, I will next year!

Stanford, CA(Zone 9b)

I saw Solar Fire in the red section of the stands. Surely it belongs here too whoever has the photo.

And I can't wait until the spring to see your new ones Doodlebug - want to tell us who they are right now? :-)

Vancouver, WA(Zone 7a)

You asked for it...you got it! Here's 'Solar Fire'

I think 'Starship Enterprise' could also fit here.

I think that they all belong here. Every single one.

Central Texas, TX(Zone 8a)

doss, they are probably nothing fancy for most of the people here but they are definitely a step towards the outrageous for me. Here they are...

-Starship Enterprise (beautiful picutre flowerfrenzy)
-ASCII Art (don't know if it qualifies as outrageous but it is very interesting coloring - check the plant files on that one) http://davesgarden.com/pf/showimage/30705/
-Crimson snow http://davesgarden.com/pf/go/34614/index.html
-Jurassic Park http://davesgarden.com/pf/showimage/43022/
-Lightning Streak http://davesgarden.com/pf/go/35547/index.html
-Oh Jamaica http://davesgarden.com/pf/go/35895/index.html
-Raspberry Fudge http://davesgarden.com/pf/showimage/27801/

See why I am looking forward to next year?

Looks like you have some nice ones coming up, Texas!

Stanford, CA(Zone 9b)

You are going to have a really colorful spring. Wouldn't miss it for the world.

Vancouver, WA(Zone 7a)

I guess I could've put 'Strawberry Swirl' in the "pinks" category~but to me, she's so much more than just pink!

I just got impressionist in an early spring trade. It's settling in nicely. CARNIVAL RIDE is one that I've just got to have! This is not good for the pocket or the lawn! Addictions aren't they fun!

The one I have that's unusual color combo is ORIGINAL ART. However it hasn't bloomed for me yet. Is supposed to be Orange stands with dk. purple-black falls. I nearly lost it the first year in the ground it rotted away to about 1/4" cube of rhizome with just a hint of green at the crown. Next year will bloom for sure!

Flowerfrenzy has a pic of it in the plantfiles.

doss~Lydia is gorgeous! You're lucky to have her!

Roni~I have 'Original Art' as well, and it's outstanding. It comes out of CA, though, so it's a bit slow to start for me. That might be why it rotted on you as well. Sometimes CA rhizomes have a hard time adjusting at first.

Stanford, CA(Zone 9b)

Let's hope that they all rise and shine in the spring. I bought Lydia at Blue J though which is in Nebraska. She should be happy almost anywhere. They are SO this year though although it is available at Napa Country Gardens.

Vancouver, WA(Zone 7a)

doss~

I'm assuming you received your order from Blue J, then? How was it. This was my first year ordering from them and mine's coming in a week or two.

Stanford, CA(Zone 9b)

The order from Blue J was good. There were a number of substitutions even though I ordered early in the season but they were generous with extras beyond the ones that they let you choose. Next to the rhizomes from Superstition and Schreiners they are small. Next to the rhizomes from Nicholls they are large. For the price, they are really great. If rhizomes were very small they sent two. All well boxed and well labeled. I'll order from them again. I'm looking forward to some of the newer cultivars I ordered that I couldn't find photos of. I love to give myself a surprise for $7.00 (this was about the maximum price this year.)

They said that they had stopped accepting orders July 31, so there's always next year if you haven't ordered this year.

Vancouver, WA(Zone 7a)

That's good to know. I ordered from them sometime in March I think, so I've been waiting a while.

I think most rhizomes, when compared with Schreiner's or Superstition, would come out small. I know that Blue J is in zone 4, so their rz's would naturally be smaller than ones coming from my area or yours.

They have really great prices, so it's good to hear that they are giving out a quality product. I asked for no subs, though, so it'll be interesting to see what I get.

I'll update the Garden Watchdog when I receive my order. I know there's been quite a few people in the forums asking questions as to whether or not Blue J is any good.

Doss - Dmail me if you ever want to divide 'Impressionist'. In the meantime I think I'll just sit and cry!

Wow. 'Traitor' is very interesting!

Traitor is different--some people like it, some people think it's ugly.

Paradise Found is another that's hard to describe....
