cutting back geraniums

Woonsocket, RI(Zone 6b)

I had to remove several infested leaves from a geranium plant but it left it almost bare. How far back can I cut it to promote new growth?

What was the infestation?

You can cut them back to just 2 or 3" high to promote new growth. Remember NO wet feet! Give them some food when you cut them back.

I,m not sure what bug it was but I sprayed them with a general insecricide rhat kills all of them. I had holes in the plants around them and when I spayed I could see them flying. When you say no wet feet do you mean don't water them?

Water them but don't drown them. Plants that do not want "wet feet" means they don't want to sit anywhere where water will stay around the roots - like a saucer.
