Royal Purplesthe Queens of Your Iris Beds!

Cedar Rapids, IA(Zone 5a)

It's hard for me to resist a lovely purple iris. Big or small--I love them all!
Stepping Out pops with it's purple & white combination.

Dreamcastle--old form and rich color.

How about 'Double Click'...

'Drama Queen'....

I'd put 'Evening Drama' in the purple category, although it's kind of a combo....

'Out of Control' is a wild one....

I planted Batik BB 3 times & thought I'd lost it--but it broke into beautiful bloom this spring--no missing THIS one!

How about this EMBASSY BALL

...or this one, UNSTABLE GENE...

Of course I'd love to get my hands on a piece of Gazellegant but here is a reblooming purple, FALL FESTIVAL...

When 'Anxious' TB was given as an extra, I wasn't too excited until she bloomed. She is delicate little flower and a great rebloomer. Love the honey hafts on this lavendar beauty.

Here is a nice historic my Dad gave me when I started my garden. Don't know it's name but she's wonderful.

Titan's Glory is a rich deeply ruffled purple.

Anne Newhard is one of those tough historics you hear about. Even Walker "favoring" it's corner has not killed it!

Gay Parasol is half purple--does that count?

How 'bout EMBASSY BALL...

Note: Sorry for the double post, can ya tell I didn't pay attention to what's already been. I do that when ordering too. Sometimes winding up with the same plant from two different sources. HEHE.

Hellcat IB got hit pretty hard by the late frost, but I still amanaged to get a shot or two of it. I love the pale blue/ purple combo.

Here is an elegant early bloomer for you: Eleanor Roosevelt.

I'm having so much fun playing Iris Crayons. Thanks! This is 'Stepping Out'

Does violet count? This is 'Fancy Dress'. She's short and belongs at the front of the border. I would classify her as a BB - but then I didn't make the decision.

This is IB 'Sailor'. Also very short - It's less than 12" tall in my garden.

Last but not least - Dusky Challenger. I'm not sure an Iris garden is done without it. Such a performer. - That is if you love purple.

Sailor looks similar to the TB Everything Plus. That Fancy Dress is one that should be rooted in my closet for sure!

Wouldn't 'sailor' and 'Everything Else' look great in a bed with one other colorway of iris?

Cherished Friendship is growing in 1/2 shade and loving it!

I think Chinese Empress counts--she has lilac standards with deep velvet falls. Again, growing in mostly shade.

Licorice Stick is an old one with lovely dog eared falls & a velvety look. About as deep a purple as you can go...

Here's TITAN'S GLORY...

and LATE LILAC (it's a rebloomer)

Thumbnail by Elizabethtown
Hagerstown, MD(Zone 6a)

and another that's supposed to rebloom is AUTUMN JOY. I'll find out this year if it does or not. Microclime sometimes messes up my reblooms. :

I almost forgot the one that won a ribbon at the local show this year. ZEBRA NIGHT is enhanced by it's varigated foliage.

Amas--old and classic! Couldn't kill the thing if you tried!

Thumbnail by Wandasflowers

Velvet Morning--So much more impressive in person!

Thumbnail by Wandasflowers
Cedar Rapids, IA(Zone 5a)

Living Right is more in the lilac tones than purple--beautiful ruffled blooms!

Thumbnail by Wandasflowers
Cedar Rapids, IA(Zone 5a)

Mary Frances seems to change color on me--lavender one year & lilac the next....

Thumbnail by Wandasflowers
Cedar Rapids, IA(Zone 5a)

Dawn of Change is a ruffled beauty.

Thumbnail by Wandasflowers
Cedar Rapids, IA(Zone 5a)

Perfection is 1/2 purple--does that count? Very old & very tough.

Thumbnail by Wandasflowers
Stanford, CA(Zone 9b)

Of course it counts! She's a grand old lady. It's your thread. Don't you make up the rules?

Cantina is blooming right now. There's no way to describe the color of this iris. But certainly it has a purple theme.
