Boils - recent outbreaks on teens

I'm 45 and the last time I heard anyone having a boil was 30+ years ago. In the past couple of months my 18 yr old's girlfriend started having them - ended up lancing one but she had about 7. They came one after another, not all at once. Then my 18 year old got 2 and they had to be lanced. Yesterday, my 15 yr old woke up with one.

The first 2 kids were given antibotics and said it's a form of staph infection. The newpaper recently did an article on the recent outbreaks of boils but didn't provide much info. I've searched wedmd.com and other info sites but wanted to see what DG members think - any boil issues with any of you guys?
