I'm growing rouge vif d'etampes pumpkins and in the morning they look fine. By midday (we are in the 90s lately) the vines are severely wilted; the leaves barely fan out, rather dropping straight down. Is this the work of the vine borer (I have seen them around) or are others experiencing the same? It's my first year with pumpkins. I have a drip system to water, but we've had fairly good rain lately.
Pumpkin wilting by day...
most squashes droop in the middle of a hot sunny day. The leaves are large so they are conserving water. I f you have vine borers, they will be obvious where the plant emerges from the ground. There will be lots of frass (plant sawdust) where they bore into the plant.
Thanks, FarmerDill.
