Louisiana iris seed pods....???

So these pods are huge on some of my Blk Gamecock iris. My question is, can I cut them off and let them ripen, or do they need to ripen on the stalk?

We let ours ripen on the stalk. It takes months. and months. We had to support the stalk from Jan. when it was pollinated till a couple of weeks ago. Have planted half the seeds and will save the rest for Oct. planting.

Ah, thanks....need to get a stake on the larger pods soon, as they are getting very weighed down.
