When I was a child the kids at school often made fun of me because my mother made most of my clothes. The things she made were well done and no ever had on the same dress as me. At the time I was miserable about it but now looking back I wish I still had a closet full of those originals!
When my DD was in school I too made her clothes...but in her generation instead of being made fun of she was envied!
Mom had "Home Made" curtains and quilts and rugs....now we call them "Custom Decor Items" and pay a whole lot more for them!
