Any insight will be greatly appreciated!
My husband just tore down the building that spent the last 20 years used as a pet shed. Lately it was a chicken coop, before that a rabbit pen, before that a goat shed. There is a whole bunch of dark, rich, dirt & doo doo droppings with bits of old straw that he is digging out of the floor area. I had him spread a plastic tarp on the corner of the property and he is piling this stuff on top of it for me. It seems like something that should be real good as compost. Its dry from being underneath the structure.
Can I just use it as is or do I need to do something with it over time, or ???
Thanks in advance!
New compost from old droppings
Man, if you're not going to use it send it down here. Gold mine!
Enjoy your garden; should be fabulous!
So, should I cover it to keep the rain from washing away the nutrients or???
I'd cover it, yes.
It's no good.
You live too far north.
In order to be of any value, you must be south of Atlanta.
I am.
Ship it here for proper disposal.
lol! My husband is beginning to wonder if I've lost my mind. Talking about how precious the stuff he's scooping out is.
We had a big storm a couple hours after I posted my "should I cover it" question. You should have seen me run out into the wind trying to tarp that pile! I did manage to get it securely tarped before the rain hit though so I'm feeling good.
Sounds like the motherload of gardeners gold...
