When is it possible to cut the tops off of my asparagus plants? Can I do it now or do I need to wait until the fall?
Topping Asparagus
As long as the foliage is green, it should remain to create photosynthesis and nutrients for next year's shoots. Any fronds that have turned yellow can be clipped (not pulled) off. If the long fronds have fallen over and are in the way of paths, etc. you can tie them together loosely with soft twine and keep them upright with a stake. Try to keep the bed free of weeds as asparagus doesn't appreciate competition.
thanks for the info, I guess I really knew that would be the answer but I was hoping for a little more space in my garden.
