Impatiens

San Antonio, TX(Zone 8b)

How much water do impatiens need? Do you add fertilzer for blooms? if so! What fertilzer is best?

deb,
In our hot climates, they guzzle water!! I usually water mine when I see them slightly wilting a bit which is about every other day right now. Come Aug I am sure it'll be everyday.
Any of the "bloom booster" type fertilizers are good.

Good luck!!

They guzzle it up here, too! DH sprays with Miracle Gro a few times during the summer.

Get those 'moisture crystals' that break down into useful plant fertilizer (not the kind that break down into salts). It REALLY helps! Remember you want the crystals below the top 2" of soil, mixed in well. It doesn't take much, something like 1/4 to 1/2 tsp per plant or container.

I water my impatients very well daily in zone 7a. About mid-season, I hit them with a high phos "meal"...or if they start having leaves fading. I am still amazed at how they constantly bloom.
