I have some fairly large Rhodos which I love. Over the years several varieties have grown into one great mound about 15ft high if not higher. I have been told that to prune them I can just take a hedge trimmer and sheer off the tops. Has anyone tried this/ I would be grateful for any info.
Thanks Carol
Pruning Rhododenrons
no, but here is what you should do. hard prune about a third of each bush to about 2 feet off the ground. these cut stems will then be stimulated into new growth lower down. prune another third next year and the remaining unpruned stems the year after. by this stage your plant will be rejuvinated and flowering again.
Rhodos never look good when trimmed using electric blades.

thanks Mark, I was a bit dubious about top trimming. I will be much safer cutting from the ground as well. I have many hedges and I am trying to get them to a height where I can reach. I love trimming hedges especially after a frustrating date at work.
Southmeade, email me the Post Office returned our trade and I need to hear from you to get this adjusted.

OK I'll do that
