I have several plants in baskets that are formed with coco fiber. The birds are pulling them apart.
One side has empty spots where the soil is showing through.
Birds are stealing my fiber!
Well it's fantastic nest building material and your exterior baskets are like Home Depot to birds.
You'll have to put up some flashy bird deterrent to discourage their "shopping sprees"
Oooops double post, DG was a little slow there (or I'm too fast :)

Do you think something simple like one of those stakes that you stick in the dirt would be enough?
Inititally they might help but they could get used to those things.
Maybe put some plain coco fiber mats where the birds can easily get to so that they take their nesting material from those before attacking your baskets.
