Papaya Pears

Stuck a couple of papaya pears at the corner of the cottage garden. Guess they like it there. This is my second year with these and I am very happy with them. Canning will commence tomorrow.

Beautiul plants. I hadn't ever hear of papaya pears. Are they Cucurbitae?

Yes. It was my mystery plant from last year. I had never seen them before so, had to have it. Nice firm flesh that stands up to the bbq and canning. Beautiful dark yellow. Fair keeper as summer squash go. I always grate squash into ground meat so my family thinks that hamburgers without squash are very dry indeed now.

I can these with onion for my dad who can no longer have winter squash. Pumpkin pie made from carrots is tasty though lol!

Great ideas! What ratio of squash to meat do you use? When you can, is it in chunks or pureed? I'd like to try it. And where did you find seeds for papaya pears?
