My Surprise..ID please.

Newcastle, ON(Zone 5a)

This TB Iris bloomed for me yesterday. I must confess I have forgotten where I got it.
It may have been at one of those end of season sales last year. No tag on it.
I think it is beautiful.
I have been calling the neighbours over to see it. LOL.
Does anyone reconize what it might be?

Thanks..
Happy Gardening,
Carol

I'm thinking 'Batik' as well.

Definitely Batik. I ended up with a huge clump of blooms this year & I thought I killed it along time ago.

Or it could be Blueberry Filly. (IB) How tall is it. You called it a TB. Measure it and let us know.

inanda good thought! Batik is a Border Bearded and only 24 inches tall. I'd normally ask if it's blooming before or with Tall Beardeds, but my iris are so mixed up this year that I'm not even going to go there.

Well you girls are right on. Thanks so much. I measured it this morning and it is 25 inches to the top of the bloom. So your call on it being Batik must be right. I looked at the link Susan provided, and mine looks just the same as the ones posted in the Plantfiles.
I then went over and measured my Cloudless Sunrise that just opened this morning and it was 35 inches.
So you have all taught me something. I thought there were only dwarf intermediate, and Tall bearded Iris. Now I know that there is a Border Iris too.
What a great place this is.

Cheers,
Carol

BLUEBERRY FILLY is an intermediate which blooms in the same height range as border. There may be other broken color irises with that color combination which bloom in the same height range, as well. Or it may be a TB which is blooming on a shortened stalk this year. I wouldn't label this iris with certainty until you have explored all the identification options.

Shortened stalks and blooming out of sequence is normal for my garden this year.

Laurief...I keep a watch on it....thanks for your help.

Wanda...It has been a hard year here too. I have lost a lot of plants form the winter.
