My first year with squash, actually my second, but the first was a disaster, everyone perished. I'm transplanting, so my squash(s) are about 6" tall, all different varieties, so let's go with a universal method. Thanx, Danny
Planting Squash...
Danny,
Not sure what you have, summer or winter, bush or vining? You need to give the vining squash/winter squash plenty of room because some of them will send out 25 foot vines. Zuchinni or yellow summer squash only need a 4' x 4' space. What varieties do you have?
I usually set mine in the ground about the depth that they grew in the pots and water in well. Don't disturb the roots any more than you can help, squash plants are very delicate when small.
Hope this helps.
Stay well.

danny - i direct seed into the garden and never have problems. i have yellow and green summer squash but i also have an italian squash that will take over the garden if you let it. this type i put in a special area. the fruit grows about 4 or 5 ft.
