Mandevilla laxa's first blooms

Temecula, CA(Zone 8b)

This is one of our favorites. And it survives our dry frosts...not willingly of course, but it does love the heat at this time of year. Hopefully it will get a little higher up the Oak this season so we can see more of it instead of hunting for blooms among the Salvias...lol

How is the smell? I planted mine from seed last year & have been waiting and waiting for a flower! Maybe this will be the year! Do you have yours in full sun?

hiya PudgieMudpies,

This is the first one to bloom this season and it is actually in the most shade. We have three, One pictured is planted at the base of a Live Oak, there is one planted at the base of a southern Magnolia close by and one in the full sun close to our cactus garden. The one in the full sun gets off to an earlier start with leaves but they are paler and smaller than the plants in partial shade. They all bloom about the same, starting now and ending in September or the first frost. The fragrance is redolent of vanilla, and it is intoxicating.

Enjoy yours,
Don

Thanks for the info Don, I am looking forward to seeing & sniffing. Ü
