sign me up, I enjoy these secret trades. I like houseplants and annuals and perennials. I like vines especially, and anything new or different. Lou

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

I'm intrigued, but I'm such a newbie! Since I have no idea how this worked in the past, could somebody please explain how this will work? Is this like a swap? Eyes, are you hosting? How much return postage should we include, etc? Thanks.

Clearfield, PA(Zone 5a)

I would like to be in this too. Thanks! Sandy

Englishtown, NJ(Zone 6b)

I'm in - I LOVE SECRET TRADES!!! Most of the fun for me is just getting the box, it's like getting a present!
I'll post my wish list as soon as I figure it out.

Pinellas Park, FL(Zone 9b)

critter - This is a secret trade. The host will give you the random name of a trader and you check their list here and see if you can send them something from the list or just something you think they will like that will grow in their area.

In return, whomever draws your name will try to send you plants on your list or what they think you might like.

All plants have to be sent priority mail in a box, no bubble envelopes. The host will specify the minimum number of plants that everyone must send but you can always send more depending on how much you want to spend on postage.

Me too! I love the secret trades!

thanks!

deb

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Oh! That does sound like fun! Problem is, my selection of plants to send is limited, so I don't know that I could sufficiently fulfill one person's wish list if it's a random thing. So, I'd better sit this one out until I have a wider selection to pick from! Thanks for the explanation.

Hattiesburg, MS(Zone 8a)

I'm interested. Will post wants later

Noblesville, IN(Zone 5a)

I'm with Critter. Don't have much to send, unless they want corkscrew willows... ~ Suzi :)

Toadsuck, TX(Zone 7a)

Critter..............nonsense!! The idea is a sacred sharing of our garden's bounty......it's nice if you have something on someone's wish list, but the best part is the surprise and the sharing!! Heck, a lot of our favorite plants are ones we never thought of getting for ourselves that we received in a secret trade..........I've even been known to go to a nursery to pick up a sale plant or two.....come on and join us. Does 3 plants per trade sound do able for everyone??

Cedar Key, FL(Zone 9a)

count me in
I got burned on the last one I was in but I will try again

to the people who are concerned not having about stuff on the wish list
some times you can go to the local store and buy what they'd like (you don't have to get EVERTHING on the list)or
you can trade what you have to someone else for what your assigned trader would like(explain to that person what you are doing, sometimes they will send it directly)
some people have sent candles and other stuff, gloves, tags, along with one or 2 of the plants on the wish list (but get your minimum 5 plants in there)

I got one secret trade that had NOTHING on my wish list but it was all stuff I loved.....and was happy to receive

look at it as what would YOU like to receive
go to the store and buy 5 good size plants
divide them in half
you keep half
and send the other half
you got plants you love and so will your trader
Its a way to justify your addiction

Toadsuck, TX(Zone 7a)

Could not say it better CC.......you're a real trooper!!

N., CA(Zone 9a)

I'm new at this, but I'd like to try to get in, if it's not too late. Does the host do the match-ups? or is it random? It might be difficult for me to find things for a colder zone in my area. I am sooo easy. Basically, I want anything that will grow in my zone outdoors, well, except maybe veggies (but like I said, I'm easy). Although I have mostly pastels in my flower garden, I'm open-minded. Just let me know what to do next!
~Rachael

West Central, WI(Zone 4a)

I am interested....but have a question....
The matching is random.....how do people handle it if they are matched w/ someone in a very different zone? I see some other comments from warmer climate gardeners that don't have colder climate plants. Its the same for me in reverse. I'd want to share things from my garden instead of going out to buy new plants.....and warmer climate plants are not found in our greenhouses anyway.
Please help me with this........if I participate, I'd want to do a good job!

Thanks!

Also, what's the plant minimum--3 or 5?

High Desert, NV(Zone 5a)

sounds like fun!

I'll think about a "wish list"

My address is in the DG exchange

Orangeville, PA(Zone 6a)

Hi, count me in! Will send address via e-mail.

My "wish list": (includes both house and outdoor plants)

###Callalilies
###miniature/dwarf varieties...thyme, brass buttons, etc. (love those teeny tiny leaves...no baby tears, already got 'em!)-pref hardy to zone 5 or 6
###Mock Orange
###variegated leaf African Violets (please no all-green!)
###unique succulents (please no average ordinaries) (love those lithops!)
###climbing Hydrangea
###Hardy (to zone 5) Banana (musa)
###Pteris (ferns) (esp variegated)
###Staghorn fern
###Trillium
###Corkscrew Vine (not snail)
###Lily Pads for in my little pond (or lotus)
###Norfolk Island Pine
###Miscanthus 'zebrinus' (Zebra grass)
###Any Orchid
###Sempervivum (Hens/Chicks) - Cobweb Type Only Please
###Crown Imperial
###Mostera (Swiss Cheese Plant) - pref variegated
###Crystal Anthurium (green and white leaves)
###Alocasia (El Ear) but only green/white varieties...like 'African Mask', etc...(or the long skinny green/white ones, I forget the specific name)

Please NO Daylilies, Echinacea, Balms (lemon or otherwise), Rose of Sharons, cannas, ground covers (except mentioned above).

I'm not picky, but I just loooove unique things and have most of the "regular stuff" already! House plants are great as long as they're really COOL or different! :)

Jenn

Toadsuck, TX(Zone 7a)

Okay, we'll do a 3 plant minimum, and what I try to do is match everyone up to someone in their own zones for two reasons. 1) You are most likely to get something that will thrive in your zone, and 2) your secret trader is likely to have more of your wish items.
