I started some Sonata Cosmos, and 6 or so varieties each of zinnias and marigolds in flats for putting out in a couple weeks. They are in my greenhouses on my porch right now, but unfortunately the weather has not been cooperating. We have had nothing but cloudy, rainy days so they are getting pretty leggy. I know I can plant the cosmos deeper and they will just root along the stem, but I don't know if I can do the same for the zinnias and marigolds. Has anyone tried this with success, or do I just need to go get some new seed and start again? Or just plant them and hope for the best (staking them)?
Help! My seedlings are leggy!
how about just pinching them back? that should make them more bushy and less leggy
I can't pinch them back far enough. They are about 2-3" tall BEFORE the first set of leaves.
Zarebeth,
You can bury them to the hilt just like a tomato plant and they should be fine.
Good luck- and post pics!
Yippee! Thanks... I would have anyway (nothing to lose), but knowing for sure makes me feel better. I am going to be a PLANTING FOOL tomorrow!
