Sowing Viola seed

Lakemont, GA(Zone 8a)

I have a ton of mixed viola and pansy seed. I have never grown them from seed. I only have experience with 'Johnny jump-ups' and they come back each year.
I would like to have them growing during the fall and winter when most folks around here grow them.

How and when should I sow them?

Anybody at home??

Think that you could sow them anytime. You would want them to go to seed. Have different colors of violas that come up all year long.

Hope that is the right answer. Someone might come along and give more info.

i just got a book on texas gardening, and since you are down south i think the book's suggestions could apply to both states since out weathers are similar.... but for cool season annuals like violas and pansies that you would want blooming in the fall, you would want to start the seeds indoors at the end of sept ( i would use peat pots). plant them outdoors at the beginning of oct when the weather will be consistently cooler. i'm going to try my first pansies and snapdragons that way when fall arrives!
