This may just get put in the "Duh!" files... I made spaghetti sauce in an old cast iron skillet, and well, being busy in the garden and all, I kind of let it sit for a few days. When I washed it, it came so clean! I mean, this skillet is super old and had baked on food. It had never been seasoned correctly. Now I can season it from scratch. I was so excited, but my husband even said "duh! The acid from the tomato gets anything clean!" (-:
