finishing a base

Silver Lake, OH(Zone 5b)

I have one of those beautiful clear blue glass birdbaths - but just the basin - and I'm using an old heavy base from an ancient traditional birdbath, but it is in bad shape.

What I'd love to do is give the thing a finish that will complement the shiny clear birdbath... so I think it must have to be blues of some sort and have either a shiny or iridescent finish to it... at least metallic but I'd rather it were quite shiny like abalone shell or something.

Anyone have ideas on how to produce such a finish on the outdoor stuff? Your assistance will be entirely appreciated.
