Identifying seedlings...

Shenandoah Valley, VA(Zone 6b)

Since I'm new with flowers, I'm wondering how I'll recognize my hollyhocks (or anything else) when they come up. I know how different a carrot seedling and a beet seedling look, but is there a site anyone knows of that helps you identify early seedlings and plants ?
thanks.

I DON'T KNOW OF A SITE....BUT YOU PRETTY MUCH KNOW WHAT THE WEEDS LOOK LIKE IF YOU'RE A VEGETABLE GARDENER. SO I WOULD JUST LEAVE ANYTHING THAT LOOKS LIKE IT IS NOT A WEED AND WAIT...THEN YOU WILL LEARN WHAT IS WHAT. GOOD LUCK.

Zeppy, Look at the bottom of this page: http://theseedsite.co.uk/seedlings7.html and it will show you what a hollyhock seedling looks like. Also - go to the main page and you will be able to look up lots of info on seedlings, seeds, and seedpots. Nat

Sweet! Thank you.

I'm also in love with doing a google image search, i.e. typing in "hollyhock seedling" and clicking "image." Brilliant feature!

They also have weed Id's at http://theseedsite.co.uk/seedlings11.html ; but one person's weed is another person's wildflower!

Zeppy - you'll find that when the seedlings get to be about two inches with some of their true leaves they look just like the mature plant but very tiny.

I learned to garden from a former neighbor and when she told me you could tell a plant by it's roots I thought I'd faint. More to learn besides botanical name, common name? Now it's easy/easier.
