impatiens

Woonsocket, RI(Zone 6b)

I planted some impatiens in a hanging basket. I'm not sure of the species but it has narrow leaves with a purple underside. When deadheading this after the blooms die do you remove the stem from the plant or just remove the dead flower?

i just pinch the flower between my two fingers and "yank". seems to work for me.

The purple underside is typical of red colored impatiens. You can just deadhead by pulling the invidual blooms, but if you think it is easier, just shearing the plant back every few months is also an option. In reality, most impatiens do not need to be deadheaded. they bloom just fine without.
