Sweet Olive in containers...

Mobile, AL(Zone 8b)

I am in love with the scent of the Sweet Olive so I bought a small one about a month or so ago and put it in a big pot on my patio. So far it seems to be doing fairly well - no leaf drop or anything and seemed to bloom well, although it is not blooming now. Has anyone here had success with growing them in containers? If so, do you have any advice regarding fertilizing, pruning, etc.? I am fairly new to gardening and would appreciate any insight that you can provide. Thanks!

I have had my Osmanthus patio tree in a pot for over 10 years. The pot is maybe 24" tall and 18-20" wide at the top. It's one of those foam pots that look like statuary. I drilled a hole in the bottom for drainage. It has perennials planted in the pot with it and does just fine. I feed it Fish Emulsion water monthly. I water it. Smell the flowers. That's it. Easy peasy. I did take it out of the pot about 5 years ago and wash the soil off, trim the roots and repot with fresh soil (which I will do again should it begin to look wimpy). For now though, it looks great. Oh, and in my climate it is in partial shade. That's my story and I'm sticking to it. The links below show what I have planted in the pot with it (the trunk you see is the Osmanthus) except for the tuberous begonia, which is shy and not showing in the pics.
