I left on vacation and came back to a very wet, foul smelling worm bin. I have the top off to air it out, and have been stirring the contents, and the worms are still moving around. But, are there any diseases/problems for the worms? I just wanted to make sure that things will be ok once more oxygen gets in there and things dry out. Thanks for any info,
Mara
smelly worm bin
Odor in a worm bin is almost always associated with anaerobic bacteria (anaerobes). This is either the result of too much water or not enough oxygen to the bin. The worms have few (if any) problems in a properly oxygenated environment. Keep stirring and cut back on the wet stuff or add some dry stuff. It's not your fault...you were on vacation!
Keep smiling and give those wormies some air.
Be well,
Don
