Let play who that ?
#1 looks like an SDB version of the IB, 'Perfume Shop'. It does look familiar. I just can't place it.
Laurie
When you gather info: a picture, stalk height, bud count, bloom time etc. Where do you look to find these details. Most nursery sites are only giving basic info :(

Tazzy, I found the SDB that reminds me of your #1. It's 'Privileged Character':

lauief your right it is all my SDB are either Paul Black or hooker s so i looked for it in my card file but trying to get every thing in data base from cads to Pc , lost some imfo . Thank you .
Tazzy,
You're welcome! I LOVE Paul Black's SDBs! Perhaps we can work out a trade sometime.
Laurie
Tazzy,
Liaison looks about right for no 3- well done. http://davesgarden.com/pf/showimage/41101/
Here is a better photograph of mine, taken today with the sun out.
I don't think Jolt is quite right for 2 though - the colour is slightly too yellow, mine is more tangerine, though the colour density is about there. I think China Dragon is the closest I've come so far, http://davesgarden.com/pf/showimage/68997/ and the name does ring a bell in my memory somewhere.
Square dance looks almost navy blue and thats not quite right for 1. Someone suggested Rare Treat and I think thats pretty close. http://davesgarden.com/pf/showimage/31707/
okus that is historic ' Monsingnor ' 1907 from France
I thought I've always read that things can look different grown in different gardens?
They can, but if you run a Google search on 'Monsignor' and view a bunch of different pics from different gardens, you'll see that they all have the irregular patterns of light and dark purple AND very prominent veining on the falls. Also, the haft markings won't change significantly.
Okus's iris doesn't appear to have the irregular color pattern or prominent veins, and the haft markings are very different than on 'Monsignor'.
Laurie
OH MY! Since I am just getting into Iris...is there a chance that I will ever get to know names like ya'll do...Tazzy....why didn't you tell me at the RU that I would love Iris??? Jo
Laurie,
I did a Google search and the only pics I found were pics you posted on your website and the ones you posted here on DG. Did I just miss all the different pics from different gardens?
Monsignor
Vilmorin, 1907
IB ML, Standards hortense violet, shading darker. Falls are velvety raisin purple to mulberry purple, veined the same to cotinga purple on the outer hafts. The edge of the blade is blended lighter. The beard is dense and conspicuously orange tipped.

leave be out on the blue ones , they are killing me LOL maybe Lemon Mist on first / oyellow one
Tazzy, I agree! Identifying historics (actually any age iris) is extremely difficult and really can't be done by photos alone. The best we can hope for is to develop a list of "likely suspects" to purchase and grow side by side with our unknowns to make detailed, "in the flesh" comparisons in our own gardens. There are a couple of great articles on the HIPS website that provide guidelines and suggestions for trying to identify unknowns. Everyone trying to identify their unknowns should read them both! They can be found at the following links:

mgh, here are a few more pics of 'Monsignor':
http://community.webshots.com/photo/119364880/119379448TFvWHb - at Superstition Gardens
http://www.argyleacres.com/gallery/view_detail.asp?iris_id=323 - at Argyle Acres

I purchased my 'Monsignor' from Superstition Gardens. The guys at Superstition have a flawless reputation for researching and confirming the identities of their historic stock. They work closely with the HIPS ID Chairman, Phil Edinger, to insure those correct IDs. Jeff Walters, Commercial Source Chairman for HIPS, told me a couple of years ago that Superstition is the ONLY commercial source from which he has NEVER received a misidentified historic.
Hope that helps clear things up with 'Monsignor', at least.
Laurie
Now i am really confessed that it where i bought mine because of .Phil e, had ck all there stock. f i got a iris gave to me from another source i always bought it again from them to make sure i had the right one . well i will try pic on sunny warm day and maybe it will look the same as yours.
